Vipasyna
“Ya: Pashayati”- ‘Look at This’.
The word ‘Pashya’ derived from Sanskrit, means To See, but in deeper sense it encourages the ‘Seer’ to not only see but ‘reveal’ something important. This great connotation of Pashyati later in Post Vedic period and particularly in time of Buddhism coined as ‘Pashyana’ means ‘Something that Seen’. The ‘Vi’ added as reference to indicate that even Pashyana cannot be simplistic one. It should be Vishishta- a special, specific and significant one. So, in whole term the Vipashyana means to ‘See in Specific Manner’, and in later course of time due to the word corruption became more famous as Vipassana.
The Vipasyana Sadhna focuses on cultivating mindfulness and awareness, leading to a deep understanding of the true nature of reality. The Vipashyana Meditation became more famous in time of Lord Buddha and said to be spread out by Budhhist Monks therefore majority literature found about Vipashyana is in Pali language than the Sanskrit one.
The core principles of Vipashyana are like –
Sati- Mindfulness – paying nonjudgmental attention to all our surroundings and keep ourselves in present moment only.
Anicca – Impermanence – See, Observe and Enjoy the ever changing nature of The Mother Nature. Understand that everything includes us is transient and nothing is as static as it looks like.
Anatta – Non-Attachment – Learn to detach from mundane bondages when right time and moment comes, which could be surprisingly any moment in life, but the core understanding of it is to let depart from the ego and its manifestations consciously.
Upekkha – Equanimity – Learn the balance, Holds the balance, Cherish the balance. That is the root idea of Equanimity to balance all the white and black aspects of life and take them in equal measure.
